In view of Australia’s outstanding performance in the information service and electronics industry, and Taiwan being one of the big production countries of world IT products, both developers of information technology can be said to have their own advantages. If the information technology industry cooperation of? ?Australia and Taiwan can be strengthened, it will not only help strengthen the international competitiveness of both parties in information technology, but will also help to expand development in Asia and global market together.

Therefore, Taiwan and Australia had their first ICT meetings in Australia in 2005, and the Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA) was signed by the Institute for Information Industry (III), Taiwan and Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association (AEEMA), witnessed by Chii-Ming Yiin, the former vice minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (present minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs) and Mr. Geoff Raby, director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia. It is expected that the “Taiwan and Australia Information Technology Memorandum of Agreement” be established to promote both parties’ cooperation guideline and through signing the memorandum agreement, achieve the goals: (1) Participate in both parties’ information market activities; (2) Establish an industry cooperation exchange network between both parties; (3) Strengthen the sales expansion cooperation of both parties in the international market.
Starting from 2005, the ICT meetings were held annually in Australia and Taiwan, in turns. In Taiwan, the mission is implemented by the Institute for Information Industry (III) and Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), and at the same time, III is also in charge of processing the communication and coordination between the government and the participating units. In Australia, the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (AEEMA) is in charge of processing the communication and coordination between the government and the participating units; however, in 2008, due to the Australian Industry Group (AI Group) merging with AEEMA, the AI Group is now in charge of processing the communication and coordination between the Australian government and the participating units.
Up until 2008, Taiwan and Australia have processed many cooperation projects, which involve many fields, including RFID, WiMax, telematics, Digital TV, Embedded systems, and Industry capability matching, EHealth and Telemedicine, WirelessHD and bilateral exhibition cooperation, etc. The various projects of this bilateral cooperation are called the “Gold Star” projects. |
